My verdict

9.0out of 10

Best for: A younger crowd looking for a modern vibe, and anyone who wants to stay for a cocktail in the bar after the show.

Not for: Children: the atmosphere does not really suit them.

What I like
  • A venue with great attention to detail and decoration, with a cosy cocktail bar for before or after the show
  • One of the few shows where you can order cocktails with your dinner, and the food is very good
  • An impressive show: four dancing couples, two singers and a live orchestra
  • A good view from every table: each row is higher than the one in front
Keep in mind
  • The house wine is fine, but not the best Malbec; from VIP you get better wine

My experience at Michelangelo

I have been to Michelangelo three times, most recently in May 2026, and it is in my top three to five tango shows in Buenos Aires. You walk into a beautifully restored historic building with great attention to detail, soft music in the background and a relaxed atmosphere.

The show takes place in a cosy room with dimmed lights, candlelight and a blue glow. The stage is big, and the show is impressive: four dancing couples, a live orchestra and two singers. Every row of tables is a step higher, so you always look over the heads in front of you.

The food is very good, and this is one of the few tango shows where you can order cocktails with your dinner. After the show you can stay in the cocktail bar, which is open past midnight, so there is no rush. The show only is plenty here; add a cocktail and you have a great night out.

My tip: A rising show (running for three years now) that stays very good, with a modern, younger vibe: different from the all-round El Querandí or the authentic shows. The show only is plenty, with a cocktail on the side.

“The show was fantastic–classic, incredibly well run, and seamlessly put together. Food and dinner were haphazard and chaotic, and my coleslaw was literally fermenting, which was pretty gross, but we were mostly there for the performance, which was definitely worthwhile. Cool…”

Michelangelo: frequently asked questions

Is Michelangelo worth it?

Yes, it is in my top three to five tango shows in Buenos Aires: an impressive show with four dancing couples, two singers and a live orchestra, very good food and a cosy cocktail bar.

Dinner and show, or show only?

The show only is well worth it and plenty. You can order a cocktail with it, which makes the evening extra special. The dinner is very good too; with dinner you get one bottle of house wine per two guests or two glasses of soft drink, plus unlimited water. If wine matters to you, choose VIP: the house wine is fine, but VIP has better wine.

Where are the best seats at Michelangelo?

VIP has the best seats, but every row of tables is higher than the one in front. You see well from everywhere, so VIP matters less here.

Can I get cocktails at Michelangelo?

Yes. It is one of the few tango shows where you can order cocktails with your dinner, and after the show you can stay in the cocktail bar, which is open past midnight. Cocktails are not included in the packages.

What is the dress code?

Smart casual.

Are there vegetarian options?

Yes, there are vegetarian and vegan dishes, and the menu marks gluten-free options. For intolerances, add a note when you book and I pass it on.

Can I bring children?

Children aged 3 to 10 get a 50% discount, but the atmosphere suits adults better. With children, La Ventana or El Querandí is a better choice.

How do I get to Michelangelo?

It is at Balcarce 433 in San Telmo. Easy by Uber or taxi, about a 15-minute walk from Plaza de Mayo, or add the round-trip hotel shuttle when you book.

Can I cancel?

Yes, free of charge up to 24 hours before the show. For the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve galas, free cancellation is possible up to 7 days before.
