My verdict
Best for: Everyone, especially a first tango show: all tango, from its origins to modern tango, with better food than most shows.
Not for: A cosy, candlelit evening. For that, El Viejo Almacén is a better fit.
- 100% tango (no folklore), telling the history of tango up to modern tango
- A full restaurant that is also open for lunch: the food is better and consistently good
- Very friendly, welcoming staff, many speak English
- 3D projections on the walls during the show
- Show-only tables are at the back, up to about 10-12 m from the stage
- At the back, heads in front of you can get in the way of photos

My experience at El Querandí
I have been to El Querandí seven times, most recently in May 2026, and it is still the show I recommend most. The staff welcome you warmly and take you to your own table.
The show is all tango: it tells the story of tango, from its beginnings to modern tango with modern music, with passionate dancers and a live orchestra. When the lights dim, 3D projections on the walls add to the atmosphere.
El Querandí is also a full restaurant that is open for lunch, and you notice it: the 3-course dinner is better than at most tango shows, and it is good every single time. There are vegetarian options and many waiters speak English.
My tip: Book early, especially in December and January and certainly for VIP: there are only a few VIP seats and they sell out fast.

- Getting there: Easy by taxi or Uber. A 10-minute walk from Plaza de Mayo, with several subway lines (A, D and E) a short walk away.
- Hotel shuttle: Add the round-trip hotel shuttle when you book. Pick-up is within a 30-minute window: 19:00-19:30 in the city centre, from 18:45 in Palermo. Wait in your hotel lobby. Areas: Recoleta, San Telmo, Retiro, Monserrat, Puerto Madero, San Nicolás, Palermo and the cruise terminal. You can book it until 12 hours before the start.

Is El Querandí worth it?
Absolutely. For me it is the best all-round tango show in Buenos Aires: the show is impressive every time, the food is consistently good and the staff really make an effort to give you a great evening.
Dinner and show, or show only?
Both are worth it. With dinner you sit closer to the stage and you get the cooking of a real restaurant. Show-only tables are at the back, but you still see the show well.
Where are the best seats at El Querandí?
VIP is always the best, but it only exists with dinner. Next come the regular dinner & show seats. Show only is at the back, at most 10-12 m from the stage.
What is the dress code?
