What is the best time to visit Argentina?
The best time to visit Buenos Aires is from February to May and from October to December. The end of December and all of January are hot! Often I changed my shirt and after one minute outside it was wet again. What makes daily trips very sweaty, especially during December and January.
The good thing is that almost all places do have air conditioning. But walking outside is not that pleasant.
Buenos Aires is classified as a humid subtropical climate. The summers are known for being hot and the humidity is high.ย With a UV index of 11 when the sun is at its highest point, even the sun protector has difficulties. I felt the sunburn after a day of walking around in the city. Even if I thought that I was walking a lot in de shadows.
In Spring the streets of Buenos Aires will turn purple because of the Jacaranda trees, also a fresh breeze will make your stay comfortable. Also, most people are in a good mood. I can really recommend Spring in Buenos Aires!
The highest temperature in recent history is 43,3ยฐ and the lowest -5,4ยฐ.
Summer in Argentina is from December until February. Winter is from June until September.
My best time to visit Buenos Aires goes out to September till November and March/April. Of course, all year long you can enjoy Buenos Aires, the weather can’t withhold you ๐
What is the best time to visit Patagonia?
As I mentioned, I prefer spring or autumn. For Patagonia the spring is perfect. Trees are blossomingย and the temperature is ideal for hiking.
Summers are colder in Patagonia than in Buenos Aires. But perfect to swim in some lakes in Bariloche.
What is the best time to visit the north of Argentina?
As the North is more located to the equator, the climate is more constant. Around Iguazu, the humidity is mostly high. Near Salta, in winter (July) it can be sometimes colder, around 10 degrees but dry. It doesn’t ray often. Summers are hot. Prepare yourself for a high UV-index.
Enjoy your stay in Buenos Aires!

Greetings Glenn:
Your web site is very helpful, nice job compiling the data.
Can you tell me if traveling to Iguazu Falls on or about February 15th to February 19th 2026 would be good weather conditions as far as the summer heat and insects? We understand summer season we may encounter showers that appear briefly. The tour we are considering is costly and we want to be sure the conditions will be tolerable. I know you cannot guarantee the weather but wanted to get your sentiments.
Also, you mention three days in Buenos Aires would be enough. In our case we have to coordinate our travel between two dates and find we will be in Buenos Aires for six days. Do you think we will be able to find activities to do such as the Hop On & Off Bus, Biking Tour, historic buildings, Tango show etc.? If you have any suggestions kindly advise.
Thanks so much!
Ed
Hi Ed, traveling to Iguazรบ Falls in mid-February means you’ll be visiting during the peak of summer, so you can expect hot and humid conditions. Temperatures typically range between 25ยฐC and 35ยฐC, with high humidity. As you mentioned, brief tropical showers are common, but they usually pass quickly and wonโt disrupt your visit significantly. Insects can be present, especially near the jungle areas, so I recommend bringing insect repellent.
I created a page for activities to do in Buenos Aires: https://secretsofbuenosaires.com/activities-in-buenos-aires/
There are plenty of activities such as the hop-on hop-off bus, Bike tour, tango shows, guided tours, private dining experiences, gaucho experience and more ๐
Hi Glenn, great to see your post regarding the “time’. I will be in BA in late May, is it still fine? Do I expect some rain?
This time I don’t plan to visit Patagonia but is planning in future. You mentioned spring time. will it be quite slippery for hiking? Is summer better for hiking?
Hi Zane, thanks for writing me. May or winter on average it rains less if you compare it with summer. So, perfect time to visit Buenos Aires. Temperature is still comfortable to walk in the streets with a sweater.
I went to hike in Patagonia last September (spring). On the mountain tops there was still snow and some paths muddy but fine to walk. I went also to hike in March (autumn) and was in my experience a little bit better.
Have a nice trip!
