Rojo Tango Review in Buenos Aires

Why is Rojo Tango generating all this buzz? Itโ€™s not just about the performance, itโ€™s the whole experience. Located inside the luxurious Faena Hotel, this intimate venue has a 1920s cabaret vibe, with beautiful decor and a setting that feels like stepping back in time. Situated just two blocks from the iconic Puerto Madero docks, the hotel itself is impressive.

The tango show promises to be amazing, with top-tier dancers and a live orchestra that brings every moment to life. But with tickets for the show alone priced at around 215 USD, or 280 USD for dinner and the performance, you might be wondering: Is it really worth the hype?

With other great venues like Gala Tango or Cafรฉ de los Angelitos in Buenos Aires, the big question remains: Is Rojo Tango truly worth the money and all the excitement? Keep reading to find out.

Location of Rojo Tango

As mentioned before, Rojo Tango is located in the luxury Faena Hotel in Puerto Madero. Celebrities such as Madonna, Bono (U2), and Mick Jagger have spent the night there.

Welcomed by doormen at the hotel entrance, I walk down an impressive alley. On the side, you see the outdoor swimming pool with the crown in the middle. It is impressive to see the luxury. Even the bathrooms have the elegance of swans. For location, itโ€™s a 10 out of 10!

The Dining Experience

The menu at Rojo Tango stands out for its selection compared to other tango venues. The 3-course menu offers 3 options for each course, featuring dishes like lamb ravioli, burrata, and Patagonian trout. The dinner begins with a small empanada and a glass of sparkling wine, setting a great tone for the evening.

The staff is warm and friendly, speaking fluent English, and they make sure your glass is always full. The service is well-paced, allowing you to enjoy each dish without feeling rushed, which can sometimes happen at other venues. Everything runs smoothly from start to finish.

The burrata with pesto was a delicious start, with fresh, vibrant flavors and a beautiful presentation. One thing to note, though: the red lighting, which creates a cozy atmosphere, makes it a little harder to fully appreciate the colors on your plate, as everything has a red tint. But this is a minor point in an otherwise great experience.

For the main dish, the strip steak was cooked perfectly, just as I asked, and the dessert had a charming Parisian cafรฉ presentation, a delightful touch to finish the meal.

The Rojo Tango show itself

Rojo Tango is one of the smallest tango venues Iโ€™ve visited, with a maximum capacity of just 100 people. Despite its size, the space is well-designed, allowing enough distance between tables to give you a sense of privacy. But the small size has its reasons. What started as a performance on a traditional stage quickly transformed into a full 360-degree experience. The orchestra, seated behind the dancers, creates the feeling that theyโ€™re playing just for you.

The dancers take full advantage of the space, performing right next to you and even in front of the bar. Every inch of the venue is used for the dance, making it feel incredibly immersive. The performance lasts 1 hour and 20 minutes, keeping you captivated from start to finish. Six tango couples and two singers bring an undeniable cabaret energy, full of passion and a sexy vibe.

The costumes were another highlight. Stunning and detailed, each act had different outfits from full 1920s-inspired dresses with feathers and pearls to short skirts and panties. The costumes really brought the era to life. Throughout the show, my attention never wavered. The smoke effects created a smoky, cabaret atmosphere, making every act feel even more intense and intimate.

My review of Rojo Tango

After seeing more than a dozen tango shows, I can honestly say in this Rojo Tango review that it is one of the most immersive tango experiences in Buenos Aires. Itโ€™s a full package, with a beautiful location, attentive staff, great dining, and especially the tango show that kept my attention from start to finish. Itโ€™s different from all the others. The cabaret style adds something special. The tango dancing is at an incredibly high level! You can tell right away that youโ€™re seeing a top-tier performance.

If youโ€™re looking for an intimate, cabaret-style tango show, then Rojo Tango is an absolute must-see. It has that special something! But, if you’re after the most authentic tango experience, then El Viejo Almacรฉn might be more your style.

Rojo Tango is without a doubt a premium, high-end experience. From the top-notch hospitality to the stunning setting and unforgettable show.

Conclusion:

  • Yes for you: If you’re after an intimate cabaret-style show, a beautiful location, and a great dining experience with high-quality ingredients on the menu.
  • No for you: If the higher price tag is a concern, if you’re looking for something more authentic, or if you prefer a theatrical vibe with grand stages and splendor.

Alternatives for a great tango show

I also want to offer you some great alternatives to Rojo Tango that capture the same vibe and atmosphere.

  • Cafรฉ de los Angelitos: The show is similar to Rojo Tango in style, with similar music and performances. Itโ€™s a more budget-friendly option, but still offers a fantastic dinner experience.
  • El Querandi: The dancers use the entire space to showcase their moves, and the costume changes are stunning. The menu offers delicious options, making it a complete tango show experience.
  • Gala Tango: Another high-end, premium tango show in Buenos Aires. While itโ€™s not cabaret-style, it offers top-level service and attention to detail, making it a great choice for a luxurious tango night.
